As data gets "bigger," more policy and regulatory issues arise. With data, ownership, privacy and accountability continues to dominate our digital lives, with a host of incidents brought to national attention by the mainstream media highlighting the risk of data design without the users in mind. More unruly than data itself is the law concerning it. The power of data is unprecedented as are the legal challenges relating to its collection and maintenance.

This panel will tackle the legal challenges faced in enterprise, open government and other sectors with data. Ranging from privacy to day-to-day management issues, the goal will be to guide audience members on how to create and manage data projects that are profitable and successful with the law as part of the design. Panelists will also address the policy environment, discussing Federal Trade Commission and congressional activity that may impact businesses built on data today.
